Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic signed the memorandum between her ministry and the Ministry of Commerce of China about the establishment of the task force for investment cooperation in Beijing on April 24.

– The group for investments is a new body, which will seek to enhance trade and economic relations of Serbia and China and deal with investments in various fields. In addition to the infrastructure, this group will coordinate the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of industry, finance, facilitation of new investments and regional investment cooperation – Mihajlovic said and added that joint ventures in third markets would also be considered, the ministry announced.

Mihajlovic, who will preside over the group on behalf of Serbia, said that the total value of the current and planned projects of Serbia and China in the field of transportation infrastructure amounted to around EUR 7.5 billion and reminded that Serbia was one of the first countries to sign a memorandum with China in relation to the “One Belt, One Road” initiative.

– In a way, with this task force for investments, Serbia will be the leader in Southeast Europe in all projects related to the “One Belt, One Road” initiative, primarily the infrastructural ones – she said.

As she added, Serbia was the first country in the region to recognize the importance of this initiative, and the projects done with China, from the highway to Montenegro to the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway, according to her, are of regional importance as well and are also relevant to the global Chinese “One Belt, One Road” initiative.

– For Serbia, this means the establishment of connections with the region, the creation of new jobs, as well as better conditions for companies to come to Serbia – Mihajlovic said.

Mihajlovic is on an official visit to China as part of the state delegation headed by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, attending the second “Belt and Road” forum in Beijing.
