The Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (RATEL) announced on Friday, April 19, that it had authorized the British company Vodafone for electronic communication activities in the field of public communication networks and services.

The Belgrade-based branch Vodafone Enterprise Equipment Limited will use the network exclusively for optical signal transit through Serbia.

With the issuing of the permit, the Serbian branch of one of the world’s leading telecom companies, as well as another optical network transport operator, has been registered.

For the time being, there will be no access points for connecting to other networks of electronic communication operators and the provision of services to end-users in Serbia will not be possible.

The director of RATEL, Vladica Tintor, said that having new operators was good and that one of the main tasks of the agency was to secure competitiveness in the electronic communications market.

– We provide citizens with choice, and the regulations in electronic communications and postal services is harmonized with the EU standards – Tintor said.

RATEL’s registry lists 34 operators of optical networks for transport in Serbia.
