BioSense wins third prize at prestigious AI application world contest
This annual contest is organized by the company Syngenta, one of the world leaders in the development of seeds and agri-chemistry. The aim is to accelerate the development of new varieties and hybrids through innovative IT ideas.
This year's challenge was to use more than half a million data on weather and crops to pick the varieties of maize most resistant to drought and high temperatures among nearly 2,500 hybrids. BioSense's solution combines results from several scientific fields and is based on the development of meteorological indicators and advanced machine learning and AI algorithms.
– This is a very important result, not just for the Institute, but for the entire Serbian agriculture. In the past seven years, we've had as many as three droughts, and the trend of climate change will continue in the upcoming period. It is up to us to react as well as we can and adapt agricultural production, in which we are helped by high technologies, such as AI – said Dr Gordan Mimic, who presented BioSense's solution during the final.
Let us remind that the BioSense Institute was given the Aurea 2109 award for social usefulness by eKapija for its Digital Farm project earlier this year.
