The project of the construction of the gas pipeline through Serbia will begin this April, said Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic.

As he said, it is expected for the major portion of the linear section of this gas pipeline, without the compressor stations, to be realized by the end of 2019.

The minister explained that the only gas supply direction for Serbia from Russia is through Ukraine and Hungary, which forces the country to develop new gas projects, making it secure when it comes to energy supply.

In that sense, Antic said, there are several priority projects: the Nis-Dimitrovgrad interconnection, the interconnection with Romania and the key pipeline – the branch of the so-called TurkStream.

– We are now in a very good position when it comes to the key project, we have carried out all the phases of renting capacities and realized a range of other measures related to obtaining all the necessary construction permits – Antic said.

He pointed out that there were commercial and economic reasons for the project and that its financing had been secured.
