First reconstruction of Kragujevac-Lapovo railway in 50 years begins – Works to be completed in November 2019

Serbian Railways Infrastructure has announced that it has begun the reconstruction of the Kragujevac-Lapovo railway in the length of 31 kilometers, after which it will do the section from Kragujevac to Kraljevo.

The works should be completed in November 2019, and the entire section from Kraljevo to Lapovo should be completed by September 2020.

The value of the works on the Kragujevac-Lapovo section is slightly over RSD 1 billion.

Serbian Railways Infrastructure will finance the reconstruction of the railway with its own funds, within the project of the reconstruction of regional railways in Serbia, which started last year.

The press release points out that this is the first reconstruction of the Kragujevac-Lapovo railway after nearly half a century.

The train speed at the railway is currently only 40 km/h. On a number of sections, it has been reduced to 10 to 30 km/h. Once the reconstruction is completed, the speed will increase to 70 to 100 km/h.

Serbian Railways Infrastructure says that the Lapovo-Kraljevo railway is connected to important industrial capacities and military facilities.

It is one of the six regional railways of the total length of 318 kilometers to be reconstructed this year.

Serbian Railway Infrastructure has made a three-year plan of revitalization of all regional railways in the country, which started being realized last year with the reconstruction of around 280 kilometers of railways.
