(Illustration) Serbian Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Mladen Sarcevic has stated that an art campus will certainly be built in New Belgrade, close to Hotel Hyatt, on an area of 20,000 sqm.

Sarcevic pointed out that the construction of the faculty infrastructure was one of the ministry’s priorities and added that the Government of Serbia had set aside funds for the construction of several faculties’ buildings, among which is the design and the construction of the art campus.

– The Faculty of Music is the priority, and the Faculty of Applied Arts is next on the list – Sarcevic underlined at a session of the Council of Universities in Belgrade.

The project of the art campus started with the construction of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in New Belgrade, but the construction of facilities for the Faculty of Music and the Faculty of Applied Arts didn’t continue, as there was a change of ownership on the land, and the state previously offered the location in Topcider to the University of Arts in exchange for that space.

The minister says that the construction of the buildings of the Faculty of Geography and the Faculty of Security Studies are also planned within the budget, and that the solution for the building of the Faculty of Biology is for the building at the Botanical Gardens, the construction of which has already started, to be demolished and for a new one of 5,900 sqm to be built in its place.

Among the faculties to get a new building is the Faculty of Organizational Sciences, the minister said and emphasized that the ministry would remain open to suggestions of other faculties as to the needs for new spaces. Sarcevic said that providing new spaces was also important from the aspect of the internationalization process – the arrival of foreign students to Serbia, which is in progress.

As he says, the universities in Belgrade and Novi Sad lack around 2,500 beds for foreign students.

– The process of internationalization was initiated in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and we are working on all aspects – visas, state contracts, but it’s a moot point until we sign memorandums and agree on the recognition of diplomas – Sarcevic said.

He added that Serbian ministries had forwarded the materials on internationalization to over 60 diplomatic offices worldwide. The minister said that the Law on the Financing of Higher Education would soon be put up for public discussion.

Among the laws soon to be put up for public discussion, Sarcevic announced, are the Law on the Organizing of Students and the Law on Dual Studies.

– We have realized 95% of the reforms related to pre-university education and I believe that we will be just as successful in the field of higher education – Sarcevic underlined.
