Strategic partner for Montenegro in opening of day-ahead market to be chosen in March 2019

The decision on who will be the strategic partner for the opening of the day-ahead market in Montenegro should be made in March, and the choice will influence the dynamics in the region, Jasmina Trhulj, the Head of Electricity Unit at the Energy Community Secretariat, said at the international expert conference “Electric Energy in the Region – Market Developemnt” organized in Belgrade by Balkanmagazin and EPS.

As said, the selection of the strategic partner in the opening of the day-ahead market in Montenegro is currently in progress. The tendering procedure has two phases. The first one was completed in mid-2018. In that phase, the Montenegrin company BELEN, which is in charge of the opening of the day-ahead market, identified two interested partners, EPEX Spot (power market in Germany, France, UK, Belgium and Austria) and Nord Pool (power market in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Estonia, Germany, but also in Croatia and Bulgaria).

– The second phase of the tendering procedure, which started on December 28, 2018, is in progress, and interested partners will need to submit their offers in February. The partner will be chosen in March – Trhulj stated.

Let us remind that, in 2016, SEEPEX successfully launched the day-ahead power market in Serbia, with transactions worth 1,925 MWh agreed on the first trading day.
