Hotel Beograd Centar in Kolarceva Street in Belgrade, in the former Jugoeksport building, will open for guests in about two months, businessman Petar Matijevic, the hotel's owner, announced today.

– The building is under the state's protection and its exterior therefore needed to be restored. This project has been completed, but the finishing works are late and the opening has been delayed due to the permits for the substation, which took a year and a half to be issued – Matijevic told Beta.

In 2016, he bought the Jugoeksport building in the center of Belgrade for EUR 7.3 million and later reconstructed it as a luxury hotel with four plus stars.

The hotel was supposed to open last summer, as the permit was obtained in November 2017.

According to Matijevic, the hotel will have 68 rooms and a 300-sqm restaurant, as well as a parking lot, and will employ around 40 workers. In order to get five stars, the hotel would have to feature a pool, which cannot be built in this particular facility. The building, including the staircase from 1923, will remain authentic. The Matijevic family owns the IM Matijevic company, several farms and several hundred hectares of farming land, as well as another four hotels: three in Novi Sad and one in Zrenjanin.

The Jugoeksport building, designed by Matija Bleh, was raised in 1923. It was put up for sale several times. The initial evaluation was EUR 20 million, but the price dropped after each unsuccessful auction.
