Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway by 2023 – Development of 60 road crossings planned as well
In his interview with RTS, he said that the works on the railway section from Stara Pazova to Novi Sad would be completed before 2021, which would be followed by the electrification of the railway and the procurement of new vehicles, as per the agreement which was signed with Russian Railways during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Serbia.
The agreement worth EUR 230 million signed by Serbia and Russia entails the modernization of Serbian railways, and part of the loan proceeds is meant for the reconstruction of the Belgrade-Bar railway.
– This is the 210-km section from Valjevo to the Montenegrin border. For the first time since 1976, the Belgrade-Bar railway will be reconstructed and modernized on this section – Jevtic said and added that this would allow trains to run at 100 km/h.
The construction of a modern Train Dispatch Center will also be financed from the Russian loan, and Jevtic clarified that the Russian company would prepare the project for the most modern dispatch center, which would control the entire railway system.
– The computer system will set the maximum train speed at every moment. Engineers will have full signalization at their disposal in the cabin – Jevtic said.
When asked whether this will help reduce the number of accidents on Serbian railways, Jevtic said that the level of safety would increase significantly on high-speed railways. As for other railways, he pointed out that there was a strategy for each road crossing.
– Serbian Railways will get a loan of USD 13 million from the World Bank for 60 road crossings this year, and we will apply for another EUR 5 million with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, so we will be among the leading countries in Europe in the number of secured road crossings – Jevtic is convinced.
