RSD 24.6 million will be set aside for the preparation of the general plan with a previous feasibility study for the new bridge on the Danube in Novi Sad, in the extension of Evrope Blvd. The City Administration for Building Land and Investments (UGZI) awarded the contract to the Belgrade-based company DB Engineering, which is to do the job together with MHM Projekt from Novi Sad, Geom from Belgrade, the Gradis engineering company and Ponting, a structural engineering company from Maribor.

The companies are given 140 days to submit the technical documentation for the bridge.

The general project should define the general future look of the bridge, which will connect Novi Sad and Sremska Kamenica. The bridge used to resemble the Freedom Bridge in urban plans, but UGZI said in the documentation at the latest contest that the future structure shouldn’t resemble any of the existing bridges in Novi Sad.

The route of the future bridge will pass between barracks belonging to the Serbian Armed Forces (SAF), which is why the structural designer needs to obtain requirements from the Ministry of Defense, the SAF and the Directorate for Inland Waterways. On the Backa side, the bridge will connect to the future branch of Evrope Blvd, and on the Srem side, it will connect to Karadjordjeva Street and state road 119.

The construction of the new bridge is not expected to begin before the middle of the next decade, and some estimates put it in 2030.

The estimated value of the construction amounts to a half on the City’s annual budget, that is, around 50 to 60 million euros, not counting the access route, which leads to the question of how Novi Sad would finance its construction.
