Serbia to buy gold – NBS treasury has 20 tons of reserves

The National Bank of Serbia has more than 20 tons of gold reserves, stated Governor Jorgovanka Tabakovic.

She said on TV Prva that she agreed with the suggestion made by the president of Serbia that the NBS should buy gold and that the bank was already doing so, pointing out that security is of utmost importance.

President Aleksandar Vucic pointed out recently that there was a risk of a new economic crisis occurring in late 2019 or 2020 and that, while Serbia could not do much about it, it could prepare to minimize the risk.

He said that Serbia would therefore orient itself toward increasing foreign exchange reserves, as well as reserves of gold, and that he told Governor Jorgovanka Tabakovic to slowly start buying gold, because “once the global crisis hits, the gold will be at its most expensive”.
