Montenegro to get largest solar power plant in Europe

(Illustration) Montenegrin Minister of Economy Dragica Sekulic signed an agreement on the construction of a solar plant in Briska Gora, Ulcinj, with representatives of the consortium consisting of Elektroprivreda (EPCG), the Finnish Fortum and the company Sterling and Wilson, on Saturday, December 29, the Ministry of Economy of Montenegro announced.

The decision on the long-term lease of the land in Ulcinj was reached by the government at a session held this Friday. The price of the annual lease per square meter is EUR 0.33.

After signing the agreement, the representatives of the consortium announced that the 250-MW solar power plant in Ulcinj would be the largest power plant of its kind in Europe.


The consortium is planning to create 226 new jobs, and the total investment should amount to EUR 178 million. The plan is for local companies to participate with EUR 20 million in the total investment.
