The Constantine the Great Airport in Nis will be connected to Egypt in the next summer season. This will be the first regular air service between the southern Serbian city and the African continent. Furthermore, an air service between Cairo and Belgrade is expected to be launched as well.

Egyptian Ambassador to Serbia Amr Aljowaily said that the visit of the Red Sea governor to Serbia this October, the first visit of that kind, included talks with the top management of the Nis Airport, where the first flights to Egypt are expected to start in May 2019.

The Nis Airport served the record number of 355,000 passengers this year and, although the numbers have dropped in the past two months compared to 2017, after several routes were discontinued, the director general of the airport, Dusan Knezevic, said last week that negotiations with airliners about the launch of new air services were in progress.

Ambassador Aljowaily also pointed out that progress had been made regarding the planned launch of regular flights between Cairo and Belgrade.

As EX-YU Aviation News reports, Air Serbia was to introduce services to Cairo in 2014 but cancelled such plans due to deteriorating security in the country at the time. Egypt Air's subsidiary, Air Cairo, maintains scheduled year-round flights between Hurghada and Belgrade. This summer, it was joined by AlMasria Universal Airlines and Air Serbia on the route.
