Republic Geodetic Authority prepares studies of street systems in Serbia
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 3,028,020 citizens have as their registered place of residence a facility without a number, of which 2,676,898 are registered at addresses where the street has not been named either.
The lack of a centralized address register caused a lot of problems in the past. Public institutions and services ran their own address registers, which would lead to various discrepancies between registers.
– Keeping the address register up to date is a big step toward the further modernization of the public administration and the digitalization of services. The government aims to provide efficient and easily available services to all Serbian citizens, which is why it's important for each citizen to have an address with a proper street name and number – Prime Minister Ana Brnabic pointed out.
She highlighted Loznica, Pozarevac, Petrovac, Mali Zvornik, Ljubovija, Backi Petrovac, Mali Idjos, Indjija, Kovin, Batocina, Lapovo, Opovo, Malo Crnice, Plandiste, Sid and Vrnjacka Banja as good examples of efficient local self-governments in this project.
The Government of Serbia has urged all local self-governments to name all the streets by the end of 2018, as, in that case, the costs of the updating of personal documents and the procurement of house number signs will be paid by the Government of Serbia.
– The RGA employed an additional 30 young geography, geodesy and spatial planning graduates in February 2018, with the authorization of the Government of Serbia, so that they would prepare street studies for each town and municipality in Serbia through the national platform Geosrbija.com. They managed to do the job in 10 months. The RGA is now to assign house numbers to facilities in all the newly registered streets in the upcoming months – said the director of the RGA, Borko Draskovic.
