Works on HPP Djerdap 1 navigation lock to begin in September 2019 – Investment worth EUR 28.5 million

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic has visited Kladovo, taking a tour of the navigation lock at the HPP Djerdap 1 and announcing its revitalization, which is to start in September 2019 and take a year.

– Several days ago, we signed an agreement with the European Investment Bank worth EUR 100 million on the rehabilitation of Djerdap 1 and Djerdap 2 navigation locks, whose total value is EUR 52 million, and the recovery of the German fleet from the Danube in order for the navigation to be safe – Mihajlovic said.

She pointed out that the state wanted to develop water transport, in addition to road and rail transport, and repeated that EUR 200 million would be invested in the development of water transport in Serbia in 2019.

The director of Djerdap 1, Dragan Maksimovic, said that the navigation lock had been used since 1970 and that the equipment was nearly completely worn out, requiring a thorough overhaul and revitalization.

– The works begin in September 2019 and will last through mid-September 2020, and the investment is worth EUR 28.5 million – he said.
