The Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications is preparing a project for the routing of self-driving cars in cooperation with colleagues from Greece and Bulgaria.

This is made possible by the 5G network, for which Serbia has been preparing for years, stated Assistant Minister Irini Reljin.

At the Telfor telecommunication forum, Reljin pointed out that she expected an auction for a range of 5G systems to take place in Serbia in late 2019 or early 2020.

– The 5G network provides us with countless services. For example, the ministry is currently working on preparing a project for the routing of self-driving cars. We are cooperating with Bulgaria and Greece, as we want Serbia to be the first state outside the EU to be included in such projects – Reljin said.

Considering that the 5G network requires a larger infrastructure and the construction of new base stations in urban and rural areas, Reljin points out that the ministry and mobile operators in Serbia, primarily Telenor, are currently carrying out measurements which will show whether the network is harmful to the environment.
