Zumtobel to close Austrian plant, part of production to move to Serbia
The decision, which will be implemented in March, entails the loss of 90 jobs by November 2019, the company announced.
According to Thomas Erath, CEO of Tridonic, the Zumtobel facility which opened this September in Nis will also produce larger amounts of LED modules, which have so far been produced in Jennersdorf.
Technically demanding products, as well as certain components, will be produced at Tridonic's facility in Dornbirn, which specializes in LED system management elements.
Erath points out that the production of LED modules in Jennersdorf has been under extreme price pressure for a long time now and that it is no longer economically viable. Tridonic is one of the rare producers of LED modules to keep its production processes in Europe, whereas most of their competitors have moved the production to Asia.
