Port of Constanta becomes regional brand in Serbia and Central Europe - Opening of new lines planned

On September 27, 2018, the 12th edition of Constanta Port Day in Belgrade took place, an event organized by the National Company Maritime Ports Administration S.A. Constanta. This edition has brought together over 200 participants in the region, representatives of the authorities, ports on the Danube, transport and logistics companies; traders from Russia have also participated for the first time in the event, confirming the interest that the port of Constanta arouses for the European transport market.

Nicolae Dan Tivilichi, General Manager of Maritime Ports Administration, highlighted in the opening of the event that Serbia is one of the important partners of Constanta Port, and Oana Cristina Popa, the Ambassador of Romania in Serbia, emphasized that 2018 is an important year for Romania, being a year under the sign of the Great Union Centenary,

– The Romanian Embassy in Serbia promotes cross-border cooperation and we can say that in recent years, following efforts to promote and attract new partners, Constanta Port has become a regional brand – said the Romanian diplomat.

Ionel Minea, Secretary of State in the Romanian Ministry of Transport, has highlighted the role of Constanta Port for the economy of the countries in the region and emphasized the advantages offered by the Danube, the opening of the companies in the Southeastern and Central Europe through Constanta Port towards Asia.

Vladan Misic, Representative of Constantza Port in Belgrade, stated that he is very pleased that in the last 12 years, since "Constantza Port Day" were organized, the quantity of goods transported by Danube river from Serbia to this Black Sea port and vice versa is significantly increased. Also, I want to emphasize that every year the number of companies that participate in this event grows and that the Serbian economy is increasingly oriented towards the Port of Constanta.

The news from the Romanian maritime ports were presented to the participants in the event, but also the investments the Maritime Ports Administration and the private operators in the port focus on, the trends in the traffic of goods. Important operators from the port of Constanta – Chimpex, Comvex, TTS, Socep and Umex had business meetings at the event with potential partners.

The meeting with the Serbian partners is coming in the context in which over the past year the connections between the representatives of the port of Constanta and the Serbian business environment have been strengthened both at the business level – through many visits of the Serbian companies to Constanta, and at the institutional level, through the participation of the general manager of Maritime Ports Administration Constanta in the Ministerial Conference on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Belgrade Convention.


Growth of traffic in Romanian ports

The total traffic of goods registered in the first semester of 2018 through the Romanian maritime ports was of 27 million tonnes, an increase of 8.8% as compared to the first semester of 2017. The maritime traffic registered 21.6 million tonnes and the river traffic reached 5.4 million tonnes.

In the first 8 months of this year, the traffic of goods with Serbia was of 3 million tonnes; the most important ones are the grains, chemical and natural fertilizers and coal and coke.

In order to attract traffic of goods, enter new markets and use all the opportunities, Maritime Ports Administration continues to conclude partnerships with ports and professional associations, signing in recent years cooperation protocols with the ports of Aktau in Kazakhstan, Poti and Batumi in Georgia, the State Service of Maritime and River Transportation in Turkmenistan, the port of Qingdao in China. The latest ones are those concluded with the ports of Ningbo in China, Baku in Azerbaijan and Anaklia in Georgia.

In the region, the port of Constanta has signed memorandums of understanding with the ports of Vukovar (Croatia) and Pancevo (Serbia).

Currently, there are 11 regular container lines in the port of Constanta, connecting Romania to China, Russian Federation, Turkey, Greece, Morocco, Spain, Malta, Bulgaria, Moldavia, etc. There is interest in opening new lines for other destinations, both for containers and RO-RO transport.
