Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic stated today that there would be no increases in the price of electricity in the upcoming period and that the supply of key energy sources in the country was stable, with a stable heating season expected.

He also announced that heating plants will start with the tests on October 1 if the weather remains cold.

When asked about the price of electricity and the demands of the IMF, he said that Serbia “is backing the price of electricity with the good results of EPS and the fact that it has a good energy mix, with Djerdap 1 and 2 and strong producers using hydro potentials”.

– If representatives of international finance institutions are not happy that the price of electricity is the lowest in Europe, they nevertheless understand that the government’s position on that issue is very responsible and that the price needs to be adequate to the social and the economic situation in Serbia. As it improves, the price will adapt as well – the minister said.

As he added, the IMF had a very strong position three or four years ago, demanding a price increase, whereas now the question is not among the top priorities.

The minister said that “the price of gas will certainly change at some point”, as the price of oil is growing globally, but he added that the change would not be dramatic.

When it comes to the price of heating, Antic said that it was up to local self-governments and that “everything points to the price remaining the same”.
