Ukrainian food giant MHP buys Perutnina Ptuj
As said, Perutnina Ptuj, which has been run by the Russian capital through the SIJ Group for the past three years, is going to the Ukrainians.
MHP Group, the leading producer of poultry in Ukraine, has reported the concentration to the Slovenian Agency for Protection of Competition.
The expansion of MHP is a strategic move, and the group secures a long-term strategic partner for Perutnina Ptuj, which employs 3,600 people. They emphasized that they would support Perutnina, a strong brand with a considerable share of added-value poultry products, in their opinion, in the upcoming years through investments and the further development.
MHP expects the cooperation to bring direct benefits to local producers and employees, and, according to their estimate, it will also have an impact on the poultry industry in the Balkans in general.
According to unofficial information of Ljubljana's Delo, MHP offered by far the highest price in the international procedure of the sale of a 91% stake of Perutnina Ptuj. The purchase price, however, is not known. The daily does say that SIJ will profit from this sale. SIJ had bought Perutnina Ptuj for around EUR 70 million. In the late 2017, it estimated the investment in Perutnina at EUR 82 million.
MHP has facilities in the Netherlands and Slovakia and has organized sale and distribution in the Middle East and northern Africa. Last year, MHP realized an income of USD 1.29 billion (EUR 1.1 billion), 13% more than a year before, of which 57% in foreign markets. They ended 2017 with a net profit of USD 230 million (EUR 195 million). MHP stakes are listed on the London Stock Exchange.
