Awards for socially responsible companies on March 31st

- The awards for socially responsible companies in Serbia will be granted on March 31st - the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia announced today (March 17, 2009).

The shortlisted in the category of large enterprises are: Tobacco Industry Vranje and its owner "British American Tobacco" (BAT), "Messer Tehnogas" from Belgrade, "Metalac" from Gornji Milanovac, RTV B92 and confectioner "Soko Nada Štark", while total of 43 enterprises submitted applications.

The five shortlisted enterprises in SME sector are: IT company "Božić i sinovi" from Pančevo, corporation “Kirka” from Belgrade, "Obuća Pavle" from Bela Palanka, Special hospital "Ivanjica" and Belgrade-based "Visan", while total of 42 companies applied for the award.

The President of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, Miloš Bugarin, said that the award had been granted for the first time in 2008 for year 2007, and that it would be granted every two years starting from year 2010.

He said that about 50 enterprises had participated in the open competition in 2008, while that number had grown to 85 in 2009, which, as he pointed out, “shows that socially responsible operations are gaining in importance".

According to the Chamber’s website, the jury consists of the representatives of the Chamber, the ministries of environment, labor and economy, the Foreign Investors Council, European Commission in Serbia, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), International Labor Organization, World Bank, UN, the Embassy of Great Britain, “Privredni Pregled” and the National Broadcasting Corporation of Serbia.

The President of the jury is Mihailo Crnobrnja, a professor at the Faculty of Economy, Finance and Administration.
