The PUE Beogradske Elektrane, EPS and their Chinese partners are to carry out a big joint project of the construction of a heating pipeline from Obrenovac to New Belgrade, with the planned investments amounting to around EUR 170 million.

The agreement with Power China was signed last year, and the completion of the financial arrangement of the Ministry of Finance with the Chinese Exim Bank is now expected.

Local companies will realize 49% of the project, and the construction should start in 2019, so that heating with the energy from TENT A would be possible in two to three years.

The acting director of EPS Milorad Grcic says that this important project has been discussed this way or another for decades now, but that no one had the will and the strength to kick it into motion.

Grcic also says that the conditions for EPS to take part in this project have met, and for it to truly take root, several interventions within TENT itself need to be made as well, that is, certain investments in blocks A3, A4, A5 and A6.

– This is a very valuable investment and the investment in the TPP that needs to be made amounts to slightly under EUR 20 million. This will create conditions for the heating of New Belgrade, but also increase the heating capacity of the urban part of Obrenovac – Grcic says.

Grcic, who visited TENT A with the director of Beogradske Elektrane, Goran Aleksic, the state secretary of the Ministry of Mining and Energy, Zoran Predic, the president of the Municipality of Obrenovac, Miroslav Cuckovic, and the Chinese partners, said that the project would provide the citizens of Obrenovac with much better and more stable heating and that the communities of Urovci, Krtinska and Zvecka will finally get heating as well.

Aleksic said that Grcic had done an important thing, as today they all showed together how unified the energy system of Serbia is.

Regarding the planned heating pipeline from Obrenovac to New Belgrade, Aleksic says that it is of historical importance for remote heating in Serbia and that it will enable greater security and safety, reduce the dependence on the import and enhance the quality of the environment in Belgrade.

Predic says that the ministry placed great importance on the realization of the project, which he believes is one of the most important energy projects to be realized in the upcoming years.

In the years ahead of us, several billion euros will be invested in the energy sector, in the revitalization and the construction of new facilities within the power sector, as well as in the development of renewable energy sources – Predic said.

He pointed out that the realization of the project would considerably improve the energy stability and reduce the dependence on the import, primarily when it comes to natural gas.
