Serbian Minister of Energy and Mining Aleksandar Antic hopes that the first formal-legal activities regarding the construction on two new hydro power plants on the Drina will be realized by the end of the year and notes that Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske should apply and secure concession rights and that other issues will be addressed in the meantime.

He stated this following the session of the Energy Committee of Serbia and RS on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, where the joint construction of HPPs Foca and Paunci was agreed, which will be verified on August 19, at the joint session of the two governments in Trebinje.

After the session held at the HPP in Mali Zvornik, it was estimated that the two locations featured good hydropotential and that the realization was in mutual interest.

As Antic explained, these are two HPP of around 95 MW, the value of the investments is around EUR 200 million, a joint team that will work on the project has been formed, and Elektroprivreda RS and EPS will be in charge of the development of this project and the construction of the hydro power plants.

Antic said that cooperation in the field of gas economy and the solving of relations between Srbijagas and GasPromet Pale, which have common property, and whose relations also need to be harmonized between the two governments, had also been discussed at the meeting.

Antic hopes that this will be completed by the beginning of the new heating season, and Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining of RSD Petar Djokic says that the Government of RS has been working on preparations for the construction of HPP Buk Bijela for a while now.

He says that they are currently in the final phase before the opening of a public call for the contractor, but that a joint construction of another two new HPPs is already being planned.

– There's nothing more important than for citizens of Serbia and RS to see that we are working together, that we are equally dedicated to the further construction and strengthening of our relations and cooperation – Djokic said.

The session was also attended by the director general of the PE Srbijagas, Dusan Bajatovic, the acting director of the PE EPS, Milorad Grcic, and the director for the production of energy at Drina-Lim HPP, Mikajilo Zlojutro.
