Serbian minister in charge of innovation, Nenad Popovic, signed an agreement on cooperation between the Government of Serbia and the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom yesterday in Sochi. The agreement pertains to the development of innovations and new technologies in peacetime implementation of nuclear energy, primarily in medicine (oncology) and agriculture.

The agreement on the principles of the Russian-Serbian cooperation in this field was signed within the international forum Atomexpo in Sochi, and Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom, signed the agreement on behalf of the company.

As priorities, the document envisages support in creation and development of nuclear infrastructure in Serbia, oriented towards peacetime usage of nuclear energy, development of nuclear medicine, implementation of radiation technologies in agriculture and industry, raising the degree of qualification of the administrative, scientific and technical staff in the field of peacetime implementation of nuclear energy through training and internship, as well as making citizens better informed about nuclear technologies and their implementation in other spheres.

Common working groups will be formed in order to organize activities in the said fields to the end of detecting the opportunities for the realization of common projects directed at the development of the cooperation.

One of the aspects of the cooperation between the Vinca Nuclear Institute and Rosatom is a common investment in the production of cyclotronic radiopharmaceuticals and the implementation of protone therapy in medicine.

This is Serbia's first time at Atomexpo, held from May 14 through 16.

Atomexpo is the biggest exhibit and business platform for a discussion of the current state of the nuclear industry and the setting of future trends. It has been held annually since 2009 and is organized by Rosatom.

More than 600 world companies and over 1,500 experts in the field take part in it, and over 400 media representatives have been accredited.
