Serbian blueberries will find their place in the European market. Netherlands company ABB Growers will open the largest purchase center to date in Orasac with the capacity of 50 tons per day. Managing director Fred Douven pointed out that Serbia has fertile ground for blueberry farming because it has the ideal altitude and climate for it and blueberries could therefore become a typical Serbian brand

- The quality of Serbian blueberries ids extremely high. Their main advantage is they arrive at the beginning of June when there's an empty period on EU market since Spain finishes its harvest by then and Poland's is yet to arrive. However, Serbian farmers need to satisfy the European standards. We are here to advise and cooperate with them to ensure their progress. We have a huge blueberry demand so I'm fairly sure blueberries will find their place in the EU market, Douven said for The Voice of Western Serbia.

When questioned about the purchase price Douven said that he wasn't sure yet because it all depends on market's supply and demand but he pointed out that the price for Serbian blueberry had never been low and that the farmers could make good profit. Last year's purchase price was EUR 6 million and experts say the same can be expected this year.
