Land given to Tonnies to be leased until construction of farms begins – Germans to invest EUR 100 million in five farms
– Everything will be offered for lease until the contract is signed, as we can't neglect this land. The first location is given to Tonnies for the agri-economic year 2018-2019 – Nedimovic said for today's issue of Politika.
This German company, whose arrival has been announced for several years back, was given a permission by a state commission to lease land in Kikinda and 2,400 hectares in Zrenjanin in August 2017 and is still waiting for authorization by the local self-governments of Plandiste, Vrsac and Secanj. However, the producer has not yet officially started the lease process, that is, it hasn't yet started building farms.
When asked whether the problem is that Serbia has not yet stopped vaccinating pigs against swine fever, which prevents exporting to the EU market, Nedimovic gave a negative answer.
He also told Politika that the plan of Tonnies included investments of EUR 20 million per farm and the employment of 50 people in each of the agreed locations.
– Tonnies has applied for five locations, which amounts to an investments of EUR 100 million and the employment of 250 workers – Nedimovic said.
He thereby confirmed the writings of Insajder, which, having viewed the documentation, had published that Tonnies intended to employ 250 workers in Serbia and that the value of the investment was EUR 100 million, Politika writes in its issue of Thursday, April 19, 2018.
