Finnish Film Week from April 19 through 23 in Belgrade
Nine very special and thematically and formally varied films provide an overview of the Finnish cinematography in the past two years, focusing on movies not previously available in Serbian cinemas or local festival.
The varied program of feature films and documentaries will provide Serbian audiences with an opportunity to discover a part of Europe which only seems remote and cold, but is in fact near and very warm, as the need for love, friendship, family, truth, justice and courage is universal. This is what these movies are all about.
One of the most exciting, dreamlike documentaries, shown last year at the Berlin Film Festival, tells an intimate story of a woman and her family history in a personal, poetic and warm way. Teenagers in Finland discover their passion for old toy horses. The decision of a former prison camp officer, a Hague convict, to meet with his victims starts an avalanche of emotions, whereas Syrian refugees try to reach a normal life through eastern Europe.
In addition to documentaries, there are also exciting feature films dealing with complicated family relations, the need for free love, premature growing up, immature parents, house pet killing and revenge.
The exclusive feature of these screening is the presence of guests from Finland, film authors Teemu Nikku, the director of Euthanizer, Ari Matikainen, the producer of The Unforgiven, Kaarle Aho, the producer of Little Wing, Law of the Land and The Good Postman, and Jaana Puskala, the head of the International Department of the Finnish Film Foundation.
The Finnish Film Week will be officially opened by Ambassador of Finland to Serbia Perti Ikonen.
