Assembling of "opel astra" to start in units of Zastava in Kragujevac until end of year

Talking about Zastava, Minister Predrag Bubalo said that the negotiations with Opel would be “continued“. Unofficially, Zastava and Opel have already reached preliminary agreement on assembling of Opel’s model "astra" in Kragujevac. Commencement of assembling of "astra" in Zastava’s Automobile Factory should take place at the end of 2005 or at the beginning of 2006.

About 3,000 "astra" vehicles would be assembled in Zastava on annual basis. It is being negotiated with Opel, just like with Fiat, on business-technical cooperation, i.e. assembling of one of the models of Opel in Zastava using the technology and equipment of that American-German company. But, the level of processing of "opel astra" will be much lower than it is the case with Fiat’s punto.
