The National Assembly of Serbia adopted the Law on Electronic Government on Thursday, April 5, 2018. The law is meant to enable a simpler, more transparent and more efficient operation of electronic public services.

One of the key goals of this law is to facilitate electronic communication between citizens, legal persons and non-governmental organizations and administrative bodies.

As said, the law is also one of the backbones of the electronic government and is necessary for harmonization with the EU regulations in effect.

Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Branko Ruzic says that, in practice, this law will systemically obligate everybody to implement modern technologies in all administrative procedures between that citizens and the business sector have with the state for the first time.

– The digitalization is the Government’s priority, which Prime Minister Ana Brnabic set as a goal in her expose and we have achieved results in this field through launching numerous services – Ruzic reminded.

The implementation of new technologies, he explains, facilitates the communication between citizens and the administration, changes the way public services are provided and provides a real opportunity for citizens to finish the jobs they have with the administration more quickly.

The aim is also to have everything be less expensive for the citizens, the minister reminded and emphasized that the intention was to have the paperwork archived and to let it stay in the past, where it belongs in the modern world.

The Assembly also adopted the Law on the National Infrastructure of Geospatial Data, an integrated system of the said data, which enables users to identify themselves and access spatial information collected from various sources – from the local, through the national, to the global level.
