“Apartment for a day” in taxation system – Ministry of Tourism preparing national project
– The ministry is preparing a serious reform of the tax treatment of natural persons who provide the service of accommodation with up to 30 beds. The reform will entail their taxation at a low rate, registration and payment of the residence fee, control of payment of the residence fee, an online check-in and check-out system and an electronic system linking the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Tax Administration, local self-government and the Ministry of Tourism – Pindzo specified at the panel organized on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade, as part of the Faculty Day ceremony.
She expects the process to be completed in two years, as the legal framework needs to be changed, a pilot project prepared, the solution implemented and the campaign carried out.
Renata Pindzo said that the renting of apartments to tourists is no longer directed at clients merely looking for cheap accommodation. Individuals even rent others' apartments in order to rent them to tourists and they refuse to declare their activity at the local self-government and pay taxes, making flat renting agreements and paying minimal fees instead, she added.
According to her, in the past seven to eight year, a double-figure growth of visits by foreign tourists has been recorded and this is a continuing trend.
