The Ministry of Agriculture announced amendments to the Regulations on Food Declarations, Branding and Advertising several days ago, and one of the news is that the implementation of these regulations is to be postponed again, Politika writes. As said, the new deadline for the implementation is December 31, and experts say that this is another unnecessary delay, since these regulations have been in effect in the EU for a long time now.

– The obligation to state all the information about the potential impact on health on products has been postponed by another six months. Nutrition tables need to be put on products as soon as possible, as this is the only way to know how healthy or unhealthy a product is – says Danica Zaric of IHIS Nutrition.

She explains that this is all important data, especially considering an increasing number of obese people, diabetics and people with cardiovascular problems in Serbia.

– When all the necessary info is there on the packaging, a customer with blood pressure can choose crackers with less salt, those who gain weight easily can look for low-fat and low-sugar food products – she explains and adds that, until January 1, 2019, we will only be getting this information from those producers that choose to share it with us.
