The Austrian aviation authorities issued an air operator's certificate (AOC) to the airline Laudamotion, owned by the former Formula 1 driver Niki Lauda, on the last day of February, Aviatica reports.

The new airline was formed through a re-purchase of the airline NIKI, which declared bankruptcy following the downfall of Air Berlin, its previous owner.

Niki Lauda had decided to form a new airline called Laudamotion through the purchase of NIKI, and the new company was supposed to start with regular operations in late March, according to earlier announcements.

– This will not happen for a while yet, however, and it is still too early to tell when the launch might take place – Lauda stated.

He said that he planned to have the flights carried out by 15 Airbus A320 aircraft and that the flights would initially be carried out in cooperation with the airline Condor.
