- European Investment Bank (EIB) is going to approve 540m EUR to Serbia for Corridor 10 and 250m EUR for small and mid-sized enterprises - said the Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia, Božidar Đelić, last night (November 17, 2008).

In the phone statement from Luxembourg, where he met with President of EIB, Filip Mejsted, Đelić said that additional 250m EUR had been provided through Apex system, which would make it possible for Serbian banks to finance small and mid-sized enterprises with good projects.

- We agreed at the meeting, which was also attended by the Governor of the National Bank of Serbia, Radovan Jelašić, that the contract on the loan of 50m EUR for local self-governments’ infrastructure and the contract on the loan of 70m EUR for equipping clinical centers in Serbia should be signed by the end of year 2008 - said Đelić.

When it comes to investment in "Corridor 10", 300m EUR will be used for development of road between Niš and Dimitrovgrad, while 240m EUR will be spent on the road from Leskovac to Preševo. These funds will be used in the period 2009-2012.

The representatives of the Government of Serbia have already spoken to the Manager of the EIB Loan Sector for Southeast Europe, Dominik Kurben, about 540m EUR worth of loan for road sections Niš-Dimitrovgrad and Leskovac-Preševo.

According to the words of Đelić, allotment of funds will be negotiated with EIB, but the agreement in principle has been reached and EIB finds the amount acceptable.

President of European Investment Bank will visit Serbia on December 12 and he will meet with the government top officials and members of the National Infrastructure Council, said Đelić and he added that it was the first time for the President of EIB to come to Serbia.

As Đelić explained, financing of railway “Corridor 10” was also one of the themes of the meeting and EIB decided to help Serbia in implementation of that project.
