Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his expectations that the current negotiations of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) about the establishment of a free trade zone with Serbia would be completed successfully.

– We expect the current negotiations about the founding of free trade zones with Egypt, Israel, India, Iran, Serbia and Singapore to be fruitful. The Free Trade Zone with Vietnam has been operating successfully since 2016 – Putin stated, as reported by Tass.

He added that he also saw great potential in the signing of an agreement on trade and economic cooperation between the EEU and the People’s Republic of China.

– I am convinced that the EEU and the Chinese initiative “One Belt, One Road” might efficiently complement each other – Putin said.

He also appealed for an expansion of the cooperation between the EEU and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

– We believe that it is reasonable for us to look into the possibilities of establishing deeper connections between the EEU and the CIS, some of whose members might become observers in the EEU – Putin says in his statement to the leaders of the EEU countries.
