National stadium to be built in Surcin? – Potential location between bypass route and Ostruznica Bridge
– We will continue supporting projects important to the residents of the municipality of Surcin, and we should not forget the construction of the national football stadium, carried out together with the Government of Serbia, either – Mali said.
Although there were speculations that the stadium might be built in one of New Belgrade's blocks or somewhere towards Makis, Surcin is the most realistic location.
As Blic reports, the Surcin national stadium would be built in the location between the bypass route and the Ostruznica Bridge. This is state-owned land and the idea is for this to be a greenfield investment, that is, to build everything from scratch, without previously built infrastructure.
What attracted the Football Association of Serbia and the City of Belgrade was the fact that there are no expropriation issues tide to this plot of land, and the location is perfect as well, as the stadium would be close to the city and the Nikola Tesla Airport and be well connected by traffic routes, the Belgrade daily says.
If the project is approved, which is almost certain to happen, the national stadium would be connected with Belgrade by a double-lane route along the Sava. Another important factor is that it is easier to carry out the project in the said location, as the concept of construction outside the city is different from that inside it. The location should be officially confirmed by this autumn, Blic reports.
Lately, representatives of the Football Association of Serbia have been visiting potential locations for a grand facility with 60,000 seats, which would be home to the national football team and the place where the Serbian Cup final would be held. Red Star and Partizan football clubs might also play some of their more important European games here.
Furthermore, other events, such as large concerts, might be held at the stadium, and Belgrade could certainly hope to be able to organize events in line with the strictest UEFA criteria, such as the Champions League or the Europa League final.
As Blic learns, the construction of the national stadium would cost around EUR 150 million. The facility would be built in line with the highest global standards, featuring the best quality chairs, gates and toilets, as well as a spacious parking lot.
