Realization of "Railway Rehabilitation Program 2" commenced - contracts worth 5.7m EUR signed with "Siemens" and "Telefonkabl"

The CEO of "Serbian Railways", Milanko Šarančić, has signed 5.7m EUR worth of contracts today (September 15, 2008), on the occasion of the 124th birthday of that company, with companies "Siemens" and "Telefonkabl" on purchase of equipment and electric works on Batajnica - Golubinci section of Belgrade-Šid railway.

- The process of modernization of "Railways", which started in 2000, has been intensified this year - said Šarančić and added that "Railways Rehabilitation Program 1" would be followed by "Railways Rehabilitation Program 2".

Within the scope of this project, company "Siemens" is to purchase equipment and carry out about 1.7m EUR worth of works on reconstruction and modernization of signal-security units on Batajnica - Golubinci section, as well as to carry out about 2.2m EUR worth of works on stable electric drag units and power supply units.

Company "Telefonkabl" will be working on reconstruction and modernization of telecommunication units and cables on that section of the railway and the value of these works is estimated to about 1.8m EUR.

This project also includes reconstruction and modernization works, as well as procurement of materials and equipment for reconstruction of electro-technical units on that section of the railway.


European Investment Bank has approved the loan of about 80m EUR to "Serbian Railways" for modernization of Corridor 10.

The funds from that loan will be spent on complete overhaul of 93 km of railway on Corridor 10 - Ćele Kula-Staničenje section of Niš- Dimitrovgrad railway, Batajnica-Golubinci section of Belgrade-Šid railway and Gilje-Ćuprija-Paraćin section of Belgrade-Niš railway.

This is the second loan approved by European Investment Bank to "Serbian Railways" in the last four years. "Railways Rehabilitation Program 1" was realized thanks to the first loan approved by EIB in amount of 70m EUR.
