The bankrupt German airline Air Berlin has announced that it is preparing to cease its flight operations by the end of October.

In a letter to the employees, Air Berlin says that, as things stand, all flight operations need to end by October 28.

Niki and LG Walter, subsidiaries of Air Berlin, will continue their flight operations.

Air Berlin filed for bankruptcy in August, after several years of losses and the decision of the biggest shareholder, Etihad, to cease funding the company.

The airline is negotiating with Lufthansa and easyJet about the sale, and the letter says that more will be known in the upcoming days.
