The Military-Medical Academy in Belgrade opened a tender for the procurement of equipment for an eye bank today.

The procurement encompasses three parties – basic surgical instruments, artificial anterior chamber lens and a steam sterilizer. The decision will be made using the criterion of the lowest price offered for each party individually.

The bid submission deadline is October 25, 2017.

The MMA will get an eye bank by the end of the year, where corneas will be stored for transplanting purposes. Let us remind that it was recently reported that, according to unofficial statistics, over two thousand people were waiting for the transplant in our country. These are patients who have lost their eyesight, suffer from some other illness or deformity, or have injured the cornea, and for whom the transplant procedure is the only chance of regaining eyesight. Many of them spend up to ten years on the waiting list.
