Germany provides EUR 40 million for projects in Serbia
The Record was signed by Minister of Finance Dusan Vujovic, Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic and Dirk Schattschneider, head of the Delegation and chairman of the Department for Southeast Europe, East Europe and South Caucasus at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany.
Ambassador of Germany to Serbia Axel Dittmann said to the press following the signing of the record that Serbia and Germany cooperated closely and that Germany had set aside EUR 1.7 billion for Serbia since 2000 as part of the bilateral cooperation. According to him Germany is Serbia's biggest bilateral donor.
– We have now agreed on funds of about EUR 40 million for various projects to be realized. These are environmental projects, projects of sustainable economic development and good management projects – Dittmann said.
He estimated that the projects were very important for Serbian reforms and added that Germany would be a reliable partner to Serbia on its road to the EU.
Schattschneider stated that there were plenty of projects to be realized which entail support to Serbia on its road to the EU and support to a sustainable growth of the economy and employment in Serbia.
He said that, of the total amount, EUR 17 million was meant for sustainable economic development projects.
He added that EUR 6 million was meant for environmental protection, EUR 14 million for the rule of law, whereas EUR 2.3 million was meant for educating experts who were to carry out the projects.
Joksimovic said that Germany was the single biggest bilateral donor to Serbia in the previous 15 years with grants worth EUR 1.7 billion.
– European integration, in addition to reforms and negotiations in various fields, is, primarily, our mechanism of regional and local development as well – Joksimovic pointed out.
