The chairman of the Football Association of Serbia, Slavisa Kokeza, announced the construction of a national stadium in his interview for Srpski Telegraf, as reported by N1.

– I expect the UEFA to send us, in the next 15-20 days, project engineers with experience in raising stadiums through Europe, who will help us choose the location. The plan is for the construction to start in 2018 and for Serbia to get a national stadium in late 2020 – Kokeza said.

He added that the location would be selected by the UEFA.

– We are considering several locations. I can only reveal one of them, which is Makisko Polje, a big area stretching on from the Cukaricka Padina overpass. Still, it is the project engineers for the UEFA who will determine which locations meets the standards – Kokeza says.

– The stadium might be expected to be similar to the Espanyol stadium, but of slightly bigger capacity and with more seats. If so, we might be able to organize big games such as the final of the Europe League or the Champions League, for which certain standards need to be met – he says.
