Several companies from China are interested in big projects in Serbia, of which two big ones are interested in RTB Bor, whereas one company is looking to invest USD 500 million in a rubber plant, stated Ambassador of China to Belgrade Li Manchang on July 12.

Representatives of one company will be visiting Belgrade from Monday to Friday and, if an agreement is made, invest USD 200 million, Li said at the opening of the international conference “New Silk Road Initiatives – Scopes and Challenges”.

He pointed out that there were many more big projects between China and Serbia, in the interest of both countries, and said that Chinese investors were visiting Serbia frequently, without, however, knowing anything about it.

For this reason, Li invited representatives of the science sector in Serbia to make effort and provide important information to those companies before they arrive, such as information on real and cost-effective projects and potential risks, as that would help them a lot.

He estimated that Serbia had an important place within Chinese projects as a friendly country and a reliable partner and that China had stepped inside Europe, having established several projects there, thanks to the Government’s decisiveness and the people’s support. China built its first bridge in Europe in Serbia, had its first thermal power plant overhaul project, implemented a visa-free regime with Serbia as the first European country to establish such a regime with China, bought the first steel mill operating with losses and made it profitable in six months, Li reminded.

He added that he expected that the works on the Belgrade-Budapest railway would start in Serbia in November, making for the first high-speed railway to be built by China in Europe.

State Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Vladimir Popovic said that the Government would support the founding of the Regional Project Management Center within the “16+1” project, as it was very important for the project to exist. The “16+1” initiative, encompassing China and 16 European countries, according to Popovic, is very important for the region, as there’s room for good results in all fields.

He announced that the meeting of the ministers of education of those countries will be held in Novi Sad in September and offered for an educational and technical sciences center to be built in the city.
