Income of Van Drunen Farms in Serbia amounts to around USD 10 million in 2016 – Annual processing of fruits and vegetables amounts to over 3,000 tons
US Ambassador to Serbia Kyle Scott visited the branch, which is the biggest American investment in agriculture in Serbia, worth USD 13 million, on June 7.
Scott took a tour of the foods processing plant and the laboratory, observing the processing of fruits and vegetables, including the freezing and the lyophilization, as well as the processes of packing, storing and transport, the US Embassy in Belgrade reported.
VDF is a family business from Momence, Illinois, founded back in 1856. It opened its plant in Serbia in 2002, as the only plant outside the US territory.
VDF employs 63 people in the production facility in Serbia, which produces around 2,800 tons of frozen fruits and vegetables and 300 tons of lyophilized fruits and vegetables a year. The company cooperates with around 10 suppliers of fruits and vegetables throughout Serbia, and the production and delivery chain involves several thousand people.
The Serbian company exports around 90% of its products to the parent company in the USA, while many of the products exported are subject to preferential customs rates.
The annual gross income of VDF in Serbia in 2016 amounted to USD 10 million, whereas the VDF Group had a total gross income of USD 200 million, the press release says.
Since 2001, American companies have invested close to USD 4 billion and employed more than 17,000 people in Serbia.
