Thanks to the investment of the Belgian company Ravago worth EUR 5 million, Serbia now has the most up-to-date animal feed premix factory in Europe, which will greatly contribute to enhancing food safety and quality of livestock breeding in the country and the region.

Ravago, a multinational company headquartered in Belgium, which has 5,500 employees in over 200 companies globally, has started producing the premix in the factory close to Feketic, the municipality of Mali Idjos. The production capacity is 12,000 tons a year, which amounts to a fourth of the region’s total needs for the product.

The construction works were performed by the Belgian company Cordeel, and the top quality equipment was provided by the Swiss Buhler, the leading global producer in the animal feed technology and food industry.

Zarko Alargic, General Manager of Ravago Chemicals Serbia, says that the company’s management has witnessed that Serbia has all the pre-requirements for successful, innovative business activities in the animal feed industry.

– The preliminary decision was made at the meeting in Kiev back in 2012, when the owners and the managers became interested in this kind of production with the intention of diversifying their activities and orienting towards food – Alargic says and adds that they also received great help in raising the facility from DSM, a global food and feed additives leader.

Alargic says that the production of premixes has been understood as a matter of trust in Serbia for several decades.

– If someone told you they had put, for example, five grams of vitamin A in the mixture, you could only take their word for it. Now it’s not a matter of trust, but a matter of procedure and quality control – Alargic says and adds that “this sort of approach will enable the creation and added value for both the farmers and the entire livestock sector, thereby considerably enhancing the quality of production in our farms”.
