The China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation started reconstructing the 7.5-km Rasputnica G-Rakovica-Resnik railway today. This is the first instance of a Chinese company's involvement in works on Serbian railways, and the capacity of the Belgrade railway hub will increase once the works have been completed.

The works are worth EUR 23.7 million and are financed by the loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction Zorana Mihajlovic said that the important section would be completed in March 2018.

– Each kilometer reconstructed means more passengers and cargo in railway transport, as well as more money for the development of the railways and the Serbian economy – Mihajlovic emphasized.

The completion deadline period is 351, and the section is a part of the Belgrade-Mladenovac-Nis-Presevo (Macedonian border) railway.

The contract envisages the reconstruction and replacement of the civil and electrical infrastructure. The works entail the adjustment of the platform height to the BG Voz trains at the Rakovica station, developing platforms and canopies at the Kijevo-Knezevac stop, as well as the construction of an underground hall and extension of the station building and the garage, the modernization of three crossings and the reconstruction of a culvert.

The works will not impact the regular railway traffic.

The contract worth EUR 23,779,518 was signed on January 5 by the Director General of Infrastructure of the Serbian Railways, Dusan Garibovic, and the Director of the Serbian office of CCECC, Zhu Tianran.
