Construction of Surcin-Obrenovac highway to begin – Value of works EUR 208 million

The construction of the Surcin-Obrenovac section starts next week, Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic stated on Sunday, February 26, and added that the works cost EUR 208 million.

– Everything is ready for it. The works on the Surcin-Obrenovac, on the so-called Corridor 11, connecting Serbia to Montenegro, are to begin next week – Mihajlovic said for TV Pink.

As she said, Serbia will practically have a completed highway from Obrenovac to Preljina this year, totaling 103 km in length.

Stating that the section might be completed in mid- or late 2019, she pointed out that the Chinese companies should be employed on the project, but that the participation of Serbian companies was 49% and that they would practically carry the works.

Mihajlovic also announced that the works on the bypass route would begin in spring, whereas the works on the Belgrade-Budapest railway section were to start in May 2017.

The minister emphasized that the value of the works in infrastructure in Serbia amounted to nearly EUR 9 billion and noted that those were projects where Serbian companies were employed for the most part.

Corridor 10 will be completed by the end of the year, except for the sections going through the Grdelica gorge, Mihajlovic said and added that she hoped that the construction of the Nis-Merdare highway would begin in early 2018.
