Stefano Boeri, an architect known for designing skyscrapers covered in greenery, has come up with an environmentally-minded project, to be carried out in China, the country with the biggest air pollution percentage in the world.

The Italian architect, who became famous thanks to his Vertical Forest, a skyscraper complex in Milan, has designed a similar solution for the eastern Chinese city of Nanking.

The complex is supposed to consist of two towers covered with 23 different types of trees and over 2,500 cascade bushes. The buildings are to contain office space, a luxury hotel with 247 rooms, a museum and a landscape architecture school.

This is not Boeri's only plan. He plans to build entire green cities in China in the future.

– We have been asked to design an entire city where you don't only have one tall building but you have 100 or 200 buildings of different sizes, all with trees and plants on the facades. We are working very seriously on designing all the different buildings. I think they will start to build at the end of this year. By 2020 we could imagine having the first forest city in China – Boeri said for The Guardian.
