As the presiding state of CEFTA in 2017, Serbia will focus on strengthening and deepening the implementation of the Central European Free Trade Agreement, it was said on February 1 in Brussels during the presentation of the priorities of the Serbian presidency over CEFTA.

The presentation was organized by the Mission of the Republic of Serbia at the EU, the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia and the CEFTA Secretariat.

The participants of the panel in Brussels emphasized that CEFTA was a modern and all-encompassing trade agreement, enabling unobstructed transfer of goods between six Western Balkan countries and Moldova and that, as such, it provided a platform for the economic integration with the EU market within the process of European integration.

– Serbia has the biggest trade with the CEFTA region. This is a good thing and is a kind of a preparation for integration in a larger and wider market which will one day become a unified EU market. We are synchronizing certain procedures which enhance the trade and economic cooperation, but we are also identifying obstacles and opportunities related to our potential future EU membership – Nenad Djurdjevic stated for Tanjug in Brussels on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia.

CCIS notes that the chambers of the CEFTA members are active in reducing bureaucracy and facilitating business, as well as in activities of the Chamber Investment Forum.

Chambers of commerce and ministries of economy are expected to animate regional business communities to cooperate more with EU companies in the coming period.

– CCIS supports economic integration in the region. The chamber will fully support Serbia's ambitious presiding, as we believe that removing obstacles to cooperation of companies in the region is in their best interest – announced the head manager of CCIS, Milan Vranic.

To that end, business forums will be organized in Belgrade and Trieste on the margins of the next summit within the Berlin Process, with the aim of enhancing the cooperation between the economies in the region and EU companies.

The Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications of Serbia says that Serbia's second instance of presiding over CEFTA will bring more work to the country, but also the opportunity to insist on reaching new decisions and agreements, such as the adoption of the service trading protocol and the trade facilitation protocol.

They add that the EU has been supporting operations within CEFTA since its formation, technically, financially and politically.

The European Commission emphasizes that good regional cooperation in the Western Balkans is strategically important for the European integration of the Western Balkan countries, and that the work being done within CEFTA is a good instrument for enhancing neighborly relations.
