The German company Leoni started the preparatory works for the construction of a facility in Nis, in close proximity to the Penal Institution, as confirmed by the city council member in charge of economy, Mihajlo Zdravkovic.

– During February, Leoni should lay down the foundation of the new 15,000 square meter production facility, and the facility should open as soon as this July – Zdravkovic said.

He pointed out that the German company planned the construction in three phases and that the facility should have an area of 40,000 square meters following the completion of the last phase.

– Leoni will invest more than EUR 20 million in the production and employ at least 2,200 workers in the next few years – Zdravkovic emphasized.

According to him, the Leoni production complex will be built of 8 hectares of land, part of which was bought by the company, whereas the remaining part will be given by the state.

The contract on the construction of the car cable factory in Nis was signed in October 2016 by Clemens Sachs, Managing Director of Leoni, and Minister of Economy of Serbia Goran Knezevic.

The German company already has facilities in Prokuplje and in Malosiste near Doljevac.
