NEDIMOVIC: Chinese market great opportunity for Serbian agriculture
Nedimovic and Han Changfu, Chinese Minister of Agriculture, who visited the municipality of Topola and Oplenac, as well as the fruit and vegetable processing factory GMP Enterprises in Jarmenovci and Vinarija Aleksandrovic in Vinca, talked about the export of beef and lamb, as well as fruit products.
Nedimovic says that it remains for certificates for milk, powdered milk and milk for babies to be harmonized.
Noting that Serbia is one of the biggest producers of plums in the world, the minister said that the market of China is so big that, if each citizen of China ate a plum a day, the entire yield of Serbia would be spent in six days.
He announced that he would sign a memorandum of cooperation in the field of agriculture with the Chinese minister of agriculture. The agreement, he said, will act as a foundation for further removal of bureaucratic obstacles so that the trade with China, including the agricultural trade, might begin.
According to Nedimovic, he will also talk with his Chinese colleague about how to have Chinese investors come to Serbia and open processing capacities.
Nedimovic says that agriculture can't function without the food manufacturing industry and adds that certain types of agricultural products are already being exported to China, but that the amounts are small. He says that the goal is therefore to turn the strategic partnership of Serbia and china into “economy and numbers”.
