RZD International announced on December 1 that it had completed the works on the Bujanovac-Bukarevac railway, the first of the three southern sections of the trans-European Corridor 10. The reconstruction of the 14 kilometer section was completed 30 days before schedule, the report says.

The superstructure and the substructure of the railway have been completely replaced, five switch points have been installed, 13 railroad crossings have been reconstructed, as well as two stations and low platforms. The contact network has also been renewed. As a result of the reconstruction, the speed of trains has increased to 120 km/h, the report specifies.

The model of performing construction and mounting works in the 36-hour shutdown regime was applied in Serbia for the first time, removing the need for a total shutdown of rail traffic. Furthermore, during the peak period, from mid-June till late August, train traffic carried on uninterrupted.

RZD International continues reconstructing the Vinarci-Djordjevo section, and the plan is for the works on the Vranjska Banja-Ristovac to be completed soon.

The cost of building and modernizing the three southern Corridor 10 sections amounts to more than USD 38 million and is being realized through a Russian state loan.
